Nicole Perlman is an American screenwriter and co-founder of the production company, Known Universe. Nicole is best known for co-writing the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), and the story for Marvel's Captain Marvel (2019).
Nicole Perlman is best known for having co-written Marvel Studios’ blockbusters “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Captain Marvel," as well as “Detective Pikachu.” Nicole received her BFA in filmmaking from NYU in 2003, and has since gone on to win the Tribeca Film Festival's Sloan Foundation Grant for Science in Film, the Hugo Award, and the Ray Bradbury award for Outstanding Dramatic Presentation. Nicole has written for Fox 2000, Universal Studios, Disney, Cirque Du Soleil Films, Dreamworks, 20th Century Fox, Paramount, and Legendary Studios.
In 2018 Nicole co-founded KNOWN UNIVERSE, a genre-focused production company. Its slate includes LORD OF THE FLIES for Warner Brothers, FAST & FURIOUS 10 for Universal, and HELLO KITTY for New Line.
Nicole’s directorial debut, a short sci fi film called "The Slows," was nameda “Festival Favorite” by Vanity Fair after premiering at NYFF and Fantastic Fest last year. In 2019 “The Slows” played at SFFILM and Fantasia Festival among others, and will be having its European premiere at the Sitges Film Festival this Fall. Her second film, a horror short called “Undo,” is currently playing as part of Hulu and Sundance’s Huluween Film Festival.
Nicole is proud to be a Cinereach Directing Fellow and a creative adviser for the Sundance Institute’s Story Labs. She gives back by mentoring for Sundance, the Sloan Foundation, SFFILM, and serving on the steering committee of the National Academy of Science’s Science & Entertainment Exchange. She is represented by Trevor Astbury/CAA for directing and producing. Her manager is Adam Kolbrenner at Lit Entertainment.
