Biography
PATRICIA CARDOSO is an award-winning director, writer, and producer. Her work has been released theatrically, broadcasted on television and cable, and streamed on the internet. Her films have screened at Telluride, San Sebastian, London, Guadalajara, Sundance, and Toronto, winning over forty awards, including a Humanitas Prize. She holds an MFA in film and television from UCLA and a BA in anthropology from Universidad de Los Andes. She is a member of the Directors Guild of America and the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences.
Her directorial work includes the Sundance Audience Award winning REAL WOMEN HAVE CURVES, the Student Academy Award winning THE WATER CARRIER, the NACCP nominated television movie LIES IN PLAIN SIGHT, the Web Series RO, the feature EL PASEO DE TERESA, and an episode of QUEEN SUGAR.
Cardoso has been a trailblazer becoming the first Latinx woman to win a Sundance's Audience Award and a Student Academy Award; she directed the first HBO movie that was released theatrically; she received the first Fulbright scholarship for film in Colombia. She directed the highest grossing Colombian film helmed by a woman. She is based in Los Angeles, California.
