Emma Freeman has been working as a director in television, film, commercials and music videos for over 15 years. Directing a plethora of television dramas such as ‘Offspring’, ‘Tangle’, ‘Puberty Blues’, ‘Hawke’ and ‘Love My Way’, Emma has led the charge in developing Australian high-end drama and taking her work in new and fresh directions. After winning Tropfest in 2002 with her short film ‘Lamb’, in 2003 Emma was invited by Fox Searchlab to develop ‘Mittens’, written by Emily Ballou and featuring Sigrid Thornton. Fox selected ‘Mittens’ as their contender for the Academy Awards that year. Emma is the sole director on the ABC/ NBCU series ‘Glitch’ (2015 AACTA Best TV drama) and the award winning Foxtel/ NBCU political thriller ‘Secret City’, that features the acclaimed Jackie Weaver. Inside Film Magazine named Emma as one of the ‘People to Watch in 2016’ and Screen International named her as one of the ‘hottest new names poised to follow in the footsteps of A-List stars and filmmakers’. She has received an AFI for Best Direction and The Australian Directors Guild award for direction on ‘Hawke’, ’Secret City’ and ‘Glitch’.
