Biography
Sally Fenaux Barleycorn is an Afropean and multiculturally raised woman who has lived in several countries and has 14 years of professional experience on the sets of film, TV and commercial productions. Since 2017, she has worked as a writer-director on her own independent productions as well as for clients and commissioned work.
Sally is passionate about how stories can take part in shaping the future of our societies. She is especially interested in futurism, science fiction, speculative and visionary fiction as creative playgrounds to re-think the world in which we live and what it could become.
Her work is made of strong and unique imagery with which she intends to connect with the audience at a deeper emotional level beyond just rational understanding. Her most recent production, UNBURIED, is a great example of how she adapts technique to the needs of a story and a specific production. This film was born from an intense emotional experience and was created putting emotions first at all times, from development to the very end of post-production and its premiere. The team adapted their technical work and behaviour on set to the emotional needs of actors and non-actors creating a meditative state and communal experience beyond words.
Sally draws from her international life journey, multicultural identity, specialised training, and professional experiences having worked with film crews from every corner of the world, to guide her work as a screenwriter, diversity and inclusion consultant for film and TV productions with a strong transcultural approach.
Higly involved at a community level, in activism and social justice, she takes an extra effort to use her opportunities in the industry to mentor and hire other under-represented filmmakers and pushes for industry leaders to understand the importance of better representation, new perspectives, and diversity within the industry.
