Sujin Lee
Biography
Sujin Lee works with text, video, and performance. In her work, she investigates, contemplates, and performs the “language space” (i.e. how she is connected to the languages she speaks and writes). This space is elusive, complex, limited, expansive, and sometimes contradictory. She has shown her works at venues including Arko Art Center, Seoul, Korea; Kumho Art Museum, Seoul, Korea; Queens Museum, NY, USA; Mandeville Gallery at Union College, NY, USA; The Bronx Museum of the Arts, NY, USA. Some of her video works screened at film festivals such as EXiS 2019 (Experimental Film & Video Festival in Seoul), Videoforma 6, and The 5th Off and Free Film Festival.
Lee was awarded artist residencies from the Millay Colony for the Arts, Blue Mountain Center, I-Park, Newark Museum, Zarya Center for Contemporary Art, and Artkommunalka. She is a recipient of the A.I.R. Gallery Fellowship (2012-2013), SeMA Emerging Artist & Curators Program grant (2016), and Wumin Art Award (2018).
Lee holds a BFA from Maryland Institute College of Art. She also holds an MFA in Studio Art and an MA in Performance Studies, both from New York University.
