Biography
Originally from London, Lyla Rose moved to the States with her mother and sister when she was five years old. Since then, she spends a portion of every year living in England. Lyla is one of the youngest female directors currently on the Free The Work roster. She has an empathetic nature that carries into her work - Her goal is to find the human truth at the core of each project and share that truth with the audience.
A writer/director/producer, Lyla has been a self-starter since the beginning of her film career at the S.I. Newhouse School Of Public Communications at Syracuse University. She gained national attention when her public service campaigns for New York State were picked up by broadcast television.
In 2019, her dance-centric video 'Bloodstream', which tackled the ever-present issue of catcalling, won the 2019 Musicbed Challenge for best music video. In 2020, Lyla wrote and directed 'The Future Is Forward' for NARAL Pro-Choice America to show that the fight for reproductive freedom in this country is not a new battle. Through a relay race that symbolizes the progression of time, each runner represents a different era in the fight for women’s reproductive freedom.
