Claire Edmondson's early music videos for Austra’s “Beat and the Pulse” and Broken Social Scene’s “Sweetest Kill” triggered conversations in the press about feminism, ownership vs objectification and the "new female gaze”. Further work on music videos and her own art / fashion shorts led to The Globe and Mail naming her “Canada’s Next Great Auteur” due to her distinct voice and aesthetic.
Edmondson then broke into the commercial world with the film she wrote and directed for Everlast, “I’m A Boxer”. Its cinematic vision, immersive tone and eloquent call for equality was groundbreaking at the time and amplified her voice as a filmmaker. Adweek, Buzzfeed, and Huffington Post featured the film, with Shots declaring her the “New Director To Watch”.
She has since directed commercials for many international brands. She has been shortlisted for a Young Director Award. In 2014 she was invited to the Tribeca Film Festival as a part of the NOW program which showcases up and coming directors. Her first short film, EXIT, premiered at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival and went to win a Most Promising Director Award.
Claire is repped for commercials by Girl Culture in the US, Asymetric in Canada and Bandits in Paris.
