Comedy and docu director based in LA. Available for narrative and commercial work. Director of Broad City inspired, MiraLax's "The Gut Gap"
Symone Baptiste is a comedy and docu director based in Los Angeles. She most recently helmed the Broad City inspired "Gut Gap" campaign for MiraLax, starring Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson.
Her short directorial debut, Sixteen Thousand Dollars, won the Jury Award for Best Narrative Short at the 2020 Bushwick Film Festival, Programmers’ Best Narrative Short at the 2020 Pan African Film Festival and Best Comedy Short at the Queens World Film Festival. Additionally, her film was an official selection for several highly prestigious, Oscar qualifying festivals including the 2021 Slamdance Film Festival, 2020 Atlanta Film Festival, New Orleans Film Festival, and Philadelphia Film Festival.
Her passion for comedy comes from many years of stand-up comedy show producing & booking - it's where she learned a great deal about comedic timing and identifying the rising stars of the stand-up comedy scene. In that time, she's produced several popular live stand-up shows, including The New Negroes (Comedy Central).
Symone was tapped to direct a short film for Hulu's anthology series, Your Attention Please, hosted by comedian and actor Craig Robinson. This is the first comedy film the show featured and Hulu aired her episode in February 2022.
Her latest film, a music and stoner comedy "Take Me to Your Merch," will have it's festival premiere in 2024.
