Ania Catherine
Biography
Ania Catherine is an artist and director based in Los Angeles. Taking form in films, choreography, performances, poetry, installations, photography, and combinations thereof, her work has been shown at the British Film Institute, Art Basel Hong Kong, SCAD Museum of Art, Peacock Theatre (London), Trauma Bar und Kino (Berlin) Forum des images (Paris), Dansmuseet (Stockholm), CICA Museum (Korea), and the International Meeting on Screendance (Valencia, Spain). Her work is conceptual, finding ground in surrealism, cinéma vérité, the aesthetics of boredom, and her studies (academic and physical) of the body as a tool of both learning and unlearning. She holds a master’s degree in Gender and Politics from the London School of Economics and works internationally performing, choreographing, speaking, directing, and teaching.
In addition to her personal practice, Catherine has an ongoing collaboration with her partner Dejha Ti merging creative technology, performance, and environments. Recognized as critical voices shaping the future of art and technology, the duo has been invited to speak at festivals and conferences such as Christie’s Art and Tech Summit (Hong Kong), MUTEK (Montreal), Tech Open Air (Berlin) and the Contemporary and Digital Art Fair (NYC/Miami). Through their art house, Operator, Ti and Catherine design and produce experiential works for various contexts spanning fine art, nightlife, and commercial realms.
