The Beginning and the End of Everything
Description :
DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT: This film is a fable about love and loss, told through dance. Boaz Yakin reached out to me about two years ago to see if I'd be interested in directing this as a film that appears within his feature film, AVIVA. It's all very meta, and I'm proud to have been a part of it, and to have written and directed this piece. The process of making this has also been quite cathartic - for me this was very much art imitating life imitating art, and it will always have a special place in my heart. AVIVA, the feature, was originally scheduled to premiere at SXSW 2020. While clips of my dance film are featured in AVIVA, The Beginning and the End of Everything is a standalone piece.
CONNECTING WITH KATE HAVNEVIK: I came across composer, Kate Havnevik, and her work when I first moved to LA 11 years ago. I used a song of hers, “A New Day,” in a student assignment at UCLA extension. More than a decade later, I was browsing the Alliance of Women Composers and came across Kate’s name. I had no idea she scored films as well, and reached out to her. To my surprise, she came on board! We decided that she could do a remix of “A New Day,” for this film, in addition to composing original music. It was a dream come true to work with her after being such a fan of her music all this time. Listen to more of Kate's work here: http://www.katehavnevik.com/.
