To Be Feminine
Description :
Growing up, I rejected the idea of being feminine because I felt it equated to the idea of weakness. I stopped wearing skirts, dresses, the color pink.... I wanted to disassociate with that entire world. During my adolescence I was discovering and becoming more comfortable with my identity and sexuality, the same as every teen. I felt that in order to prove my strength through all of the frustration I had to appear more masculine. I feel that many women have been to this place before, but are now reclaiming the femininity they once left behind. I want this short film to display the idea that black women can be anything they want to. Just because I am a femme woman does not mean that I am weak. I am multifaceted and so are you.
The beauty about femininity to me is that is it not a gender exclusive concept. It exists within all of us. It’s up to the individual to embrace it or suppress it. And either way is okay, as long as you’re being yourself in the end...
