Biography
MAN MADE is T Cooper's first feature documentary.
Cooper is a novelist, filmmaker, journalist, professor, and television writer. He is the author of nine books, including the bestselling novels Lipshitz Six, or Two Angry Blondes and The Beaufort Diaries. His most recent non-fiction book is Real Man Adventures (McSweeney’s), and he is co-author, with Allison Glock-Cooper, of the four-part Young Adult novel series Changers (which the team is adapting for television). He also currently serves as Consulting Producer and Writer on The Blacklist (NBC).
Cooper's shorter writing has appeared in a variety of publications, including The New Yorker, The New York Times, The New York Times Magazine, Mother Jones, Harpers, The Believer, Esquire, One Story, Bomb, The Guardian, The Brooklyn Review, Poets & Writers, O: The Oprah Magazine, and several others, including on Public Radio International.
Cooper is the director, producer, and co-writer (as well as filmed most of) Man Made, recipient of a Sundance Institute Documentary Film program grant. The film has appeared at over 60 film festivals in the U.S. and abroad (thus far in 2019), and is winner of 14 festival awards (including Best Documentary Jury Prizes, Best Documentary Audiences Awards, and more).
T Cooper's television writing credits include The Get Down (Netflix), Copper (BBC America), and The Blacklist (NBC). His shorter film work includes an animated short called The Beaufort Diaries, which Cooper produced and adapted from his own graphic novella of the same name; the film stars actor David Duchovny, and premiered at a variety of festivals worldwide, including Tribeca and SXSW (2011).
Cooper holds an MFA from Columbia University, and a BA from Middlebury College; he is also a professor of English and Creative Writing at Emory University in Atlanta.
