British born director of Sierra Leonean heritage living bewteen LDN & LA
Tajana Tokyo is a Sierra Leonean British director whose colorful & musical style is heavily influenced by her professional dance career. Her credits include Janelle Monae’s Dirty Computer Tour, Beyonce’s Formation Tour as well as the legendary Beychella performance & she carries this expertise into her films. Movement informs her work beyond the execution of choreography but also exploring how movement is explored within the cinematic/documentary/ narrative realm of film. Comprising this with her dynamic editing style has a way of making audiences feel that they are physically a part of her work. She broke through with her 2021 short film ‘Back Beat’ shining a spotlight on the resilience & kinship of black professional dancers, which premiered exclusively on NOWNESS. She has also directed music videos & live performances for Ari Lennox, CHIKA, Bas, Channel Tres, Flo & Missy Elliiott, as well as the Apple Music Ad for Rihanna’s Super Bowl Half Time Show. Tajana is currently focused on projects in advertising, music, live performanc & fashion but hopes to deepen her relationship with music & create films where movement leads the story-telling, visually impacting how audiences receive & digest music.
