Jabeen Merchant is a film editor trained at the Film and Television Institute of India, with a wide and varied experience in the Indian film industry, including mainstream and indie fiction features, independent documentary, television, music videos and most recently, films and series for internet based platforms.
Her fiction feature films cover a range of languages and genres, from the critically acclaimed Anaarkali of Aarah to commercially successful thrillers like NH10 and Manorama Six Feet Under; to the off-beat comedy The President Is Coming; art-house films such as Kadvi Hawa and The Sweet Requiem; as well as children's films such as the much loved, award winning Chuskit.
Jabeen is particularly well known for her work on documentary films. She has edited and co-scripted a number of internationally celebrated feature length documentaries in collaboration with some of India’s best known independent filmmakers. Her documentary work has travelled extensively to festivals and screenings all over the world; and been broadcast in the USA, Japan and Europe.
Apart from editing films, she teaches, consults on scripts and occasionally writes on cinema.
