Shira Kela is a Berlin based director and artist. Born in Tel Aviv in 1987, she moved to Barcelona in 2010 to study media design at the renowned IED School. After completing her studies with a focus on video art, she moved to Berlin in 2013. Here she forged a number of fruitful collaborations and new artistic ventures. Her portfolio includes short films, music videos, video advertisements, video installations, interactive installations, photography, sculptures and conceptual immersive events. Shira's motivation is people and their surroundings, it is from there that she understands the messages she is trying to convey and asks questions that can create an honest dialogue. Shira loves to explore the deep psyche and behavior of ordinary people and create abstract stories that are easy to tell from a personal point of view. In recent years she has also liked to integrate a taste from her own religion with a touch of Jewish mysticism and knowledge, to examine the stories told and to try to find their relevance to the days in which we live Career highlights include “Faith”, where she supported the renowned director and artist Isabel Rocamora with an installation with three screens. Development of the time-based media content in collaboration with the artists Orly Anan for "Mamaloshen" and "Pleasure". At the end of 2017, she was commissioned by the Israeli embassy in Colombia to present a piece at the "Arttec Festival", which took place during the art week in Bogota. In 2018 she finished her first short film, which was written, directed and produced by her, Zygota, and in 2019 she directed 2 short films for the Russian collective "Arma" in Moscow. In 2020 she took part in several film festivals and took part in the group exhibition in "Monopol" Berlin and she is co-founder and creative director of the artist platform Polyphony Studio. The studio hosts various performances, art exhibitions and inclusive events for different communities. She continues to live and work in Berlin, where she navigates between art, film and the spaces with her unique vision.
