Biography
Rei Nadal is a Spanish film director based in London. Prior to beginning her directorial career in 2012, Rei garnered attention for her Tumblr page “The Saddest Part Of My Body Is My Mouth,” which is an amalgamation of fashion editorials, photography, art, and video, alongside self-portraits and poetic diary entries. In 2013, Rei’s creative prowess caught the eye of Nick Knight and Primal Scream’s Bobby Gillespie, which resulted in her directing the NME Nominated Best Track 2013. To this day, Rei continues to collaborate with Nick Knight and SHOWstudio, co-directing films and crafting fashion illustrations. Rei directed the sultry music video for Hercules & Love Affair’s song “Controller,” and the fashion film for Nicholas Kirkwood SS/18, called Impressions of Stolen Space, which is the second addition in an ongoing collaboration with the brand. Rei also directed the fashion film Once Upon a Future for Korean Eyewear brand Gentle Monster’s 2018 capsule collection with London-based designer Xander Zhou. The film is a continuation of Zhou’s exploration of extraterrestrial life and presents a future in which aliens and humans interact in daily life. In January of 2019, V Magazine released Rei’s short film Stalker, starring Esmé Creed-Miles of the Amazon series Hanna, about a young woman who utilizes fashion to subvert the male gaze. Her film Stephen Jones Hats, produced by SHOWstudio, is played in tandem with an exhibition, featuring many of the famed British milliner’s most radical designs, at the Royal Pavilion from February 7 to June 9, 2019. The film follows Stephen as he moves around the exhibition space providing insights and commentary on his displayed pieces.
