Haroula Rose
Biography
Haroula Rose is a Greek-American filmmaker and singer-songwriter from Chicago. She currently resides between Los Angeles and Nashville. She works in both nofiction and fiction filmmaking, and has released several records, singles, and remixes with Thirty Tigers, the Nashville based label. Rose's work in the commerical space started at Earhole Studios in Chicago, where she would sing for and produce music for many TV and radio spots.
In 2020 Rose's feature debut as writer/director ONCE UPON A RIVER was called “One of the Most Anticipated Films” by TIME and FILMMAKER, winning 19 awards at 40 festivals worldwide including Best Director at the Bend Film Festival, Red Nation, the Alice Guy Blaché Emerging Female Filmmaker Award at Oxford, the Stubbornly Independent Award at Tallgrass, and only the second American film ever to win the Efebo d’Oro in Palermo, Italy. It is being distributed by Film Movement in North America and Bulldog in the UK.
Rose is currently filming a documentary for The Gun Violence Memorial Project, and is in post production on a branded short film for Reese Witherspoon's Hello Sunshine. Her work on music has led her to create many music videos, her most recent for multiple Grammy Award winning musician Rodney Crowell having just premiered on Rolling Stone. Her short film AS THEY SLEPT, featuring Maya Hawke, Rachel Hilson, and Fred Hechinger premiered with NOWNESS in 2020. LOST & FOUND, a pilot Rose created within Warner Media's Project 150 premiered at Tribeca and was called "not to be missed" by the New York Times. WEDDING DRESS, NO LOVE SONG, and BABY CRAZY have travelled the world and accumulated multiple awards for their storytelling, tone and cinematic qualities.
As a producer Rose has worked on FRUITVALE STATION, THE FEAR OF THIRTEEN, HEAVEN ADORES YOU, PERMANENT and SAINT FRANCES. Rose’s film work has been supported by a Fulbright Fellowship in Madrid, Nantucket Screenwriters Colony, WarnerMedia, Warner Brothers Directing Workshop, and Tribeca All Access. She received her BA and MA from the University of Chicago, and attended USC's MFA program.
