Biography
Mariana Blanco is a filmmaker born in Costa Rica and based in Los Angeles. With over twelve years of experience in non-profit and documentary storytelling, including helping found the non-profit Invisible Children, she has directed shorts for Participant Media, The Sundance Institute, Thompson Hotels, Saatchi Art, Spotify, No Kid Hungry, and the Gates Foundation, and her Soccket commercial for the American Express Members Project was nominated for TED’s Ads Worth Spreading. As a documentary editor, the short Transformation for MTV was nominated for an 2017 Creative Arts Emmy, the feature length documentary, The Barkley Marathons, won the audience award at Austin Film Festival and Top 20 at Hot Docs, and the film, I Am Sun Mu, traveled to IDFA, DOCNYC, opened the DMZ International Documentary Festival, won best edited at Salem Film Festival and joined the Human Rights Watch Film Festival. She is currently in progress directing a documentary about clouds in the sky & the power of looking up, and her first word was iguana.
