Biography
Irene Dhar Malik is a Mumbai-based, award-winning editor of feature films, documentaries and television shows.
Irene has a Master’s degree in English Literature from Calcutta University and trained in Film Editing at India’s premier film school, Film & Television Institute of India (FTII).
Having started her career as an assistant to Renu Saluja on 1942- A Love Story, she has edited a number of television series, documentaries and worked on several features as well. She has also taught editing at the Film & Television Institute of India, Pune. Her editing credits include feature films like Clever & Lonely, Bas ek Pal, Sorry Bhai, I AM, Chauranga, Kuch Bheege Alfaaz _and documentaries like Prakash Jha’s film on Jai Prakash Narayan, Shivendra Singh’s _Celluloid Man (for which she won the Best Editing National Award in 2013), _Minnie Vaid’s _Goal’den Girls, _Brahmanand Singh’s _Riding on a Sunbeam _and Karan Bali’s _An American in Madras (for which she won the IDPA award as best editor in 2015). She has also edited several TV series including Ek Din Ek Jeevan _for Star Plus and _Powder _for Yashraj Films/ Netflix. A recent project is the seven and half hour documentary on the Czech New Wave called Czechmate – In Search of Jiri Menzel.
Irene has written screenplays for television and the feature Bas ek Pal. _She has written online film reviews and features for _Deccan Herald. Her short stories have been published in several anthologies and magazines, the most recent being the Afro-Asian collection Behind the Shadows. Apart from the Guneet Monga produced documentary Kickin’ Balls, she is currently working on a documentary on Jainism and one about the confluence of cinema and politics in Tamil Nadu.
