Singularity Song
Description :
Singularity Song is a meditation on black holes, pairing legendary butoh dancer, Oguri, with the voices one of the world's leading theoretical physicists, Kip Thorne and black hole physicist Rana Adhikari. Oguri performs the human embodiment of the unknown soul of a black hole as a narrator describes the events which occured billions of years ago but which just recently made its "sound" known to human ears, through the detection of gravitational waves which occurred in 2015.
Director + Artist Rachel Mason conducted interviews at Caltech in the offices of theoretical physicist Kip Thorne, best known for his groundbreaking work on black holes, gravitational waves and speculations about the possibilities of time travel through wormholes (Kip's work was the foundation for Christopher Noland's Interstellar) as well as the chief architect of LIGO, Rana Adhikari. Singularity Song is part of a larger project called The Moving Mountain, which aims to explore advanced scientific concepts through poetic imagery.
