My passion lies in capturing intimate, insightful human portraits in the commercial x documentary space. I strive for audiences to feel, to be moved.
In all my work, I strive for audiences to feel; to be moved. I love capturing intimate, insightful portraits that challenge perceptions and inspire new thought. I am deeply passionate about empowering marginalised communities and promoting - and protecting - women in my industry. In 2017, I was amongst a handful of women who signed in the constitution of our newest film organisation: SWIFT: Sisters Working in Film and Television.
Born in South Africa’s semi-arid, rural Karoo region, I moved to Cape Town after school and studied Film & Media at the University of Cape Town. I followed this with a post-graduate specialisation in Cinematography and Editing at the South African School of Motion Picture (AFDA). In 2012, I started working as a camera operator and DIT on commercial and film shoots in the city. Soon after, I accidentally stumbled across “fracking” - a controversial method of gas extraction proposed for my home region. Three years later, my first feature documentary investigating the underbelly of the fossil fuel industry, Unearthed, received critical acclaim and numerous awards at international film festivals.
Since then, I’ve been lucky enough to work full time as a director in the commercial, documentary and narrative space. I’ve shot across the world and worked with numerous brands including Citi, BMW and BBC.
In 2020, I was signed with South Africa’s leading Director’s Agency and Production Company, Figment for commercial work. Internationally, I work as a freelancer.
