MJ Delaney is a BAFTA-winning director. Graduating from Oxford University in 2007 with a Double First in English, MJ quickly moved on to film. At 25, she created Newport (Ymerodraeth State of Mind), one of the biggest viral hits of 2010.
MJ was named one of Broadcast Magazine’s ‘Hotshots’ in 2012, having created content for BBC Comedy, Channel 4 and Funny Or Die. In the the same year she was named ‘Best New Director’ at the BTAA Craft Awards, which has lead to extensive and often award-winning work in commercials directing.
MJ’s first long-form film, Ben & Lump, was broadcast on Channel 4 as part of the network's Coming Up talent scheme. The film was very well received by critics and was soon followed by her debut feature, Powder Room, which was picked up at Cannes in 2013 and theatrically released by Universal Pictures. The feature, too, was well reviewed, and was even featured on the front page of The Times newspaper.
In 2016, #WhatIReallyReallyWant – MJ’s re-make of the Wannabe video promoting gender equality and the United Nations Global Goals - amassed over 200 million views. Her 2017 follow-up, to Beyonce’s Freedom, was MJ’s third viral success.
2018 saw collaborations with Michelle Obama (Obama Foundation) and Jennifer Lawrence (RepresentUS). She won a BAFTA for her short Dreamland and was awarded at the Fashion Film Festival Milano.
Most recently, MJ has directed two episodes of Ted Lasso for Apple and the entirety of Frank of Ireland for Amazon & Channel 4.
