Avi Krispin
Biography
Avi Krispin is a video artist/filmmaker based in Tel Aviv and Amsterdam. Her practice focuses on single channel videos, video installations and photography. By borrowing and deconstructing the language of mainstream pop culture, she highlights and dissects societal interactions - asking to stop and reexamine our surroundings and the things we take for granted. Almost always, a veil of humour is used as a front to address a sadness, an isolation, to exaggerate the uncomfortable and to navigate the seriousness of her subject.
Krispin completed her bachelor and masters degrees at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy (2006) and the Sandberg Institute (2008) in Amsterdam. Her residencies include the prestigious artist residency Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture and HMK in Hoorn, the Netherlands. She has been nominated for several awards and has received grants and support for her projects via the Nederland Fonds door de Film and the Rabinovich Foundation. Her solo exhibitions include De Service Garage in Amsterdam and Kav 16 Gallery in Tel Aviv. She has exhibited internationally, and at festivals including the International Film Festival Rotterdam, EMAF, Athens Video Art Festival, Kassel DokFest, Moya Museum of Young Art Vienna and the Rietveld Arsenale in the Venice Biennale.
