Malik Aziz is an award winning actor, writer, producer and director whose work in front of and behind the camera has garnered critical and audience acclaim. In 2009, Malik wrote, directed, and starred in ‘Lady In My Life,’ a popular short film that has been featured on several major showcases, among them BET’s ‘Lens on Talent’, the nationally syndicated show ‘African American Short Films’, and most recently Aspire/ABFF Independent's Short Film Showcase. A product of the socially conscious era of hip hop, Malik’s work at times reflects his empathy for the world around him: his script ‘American Muslim’ was selected as a semifinalist for the 2011 Sundance Screenwriters Lab, and his script 'Mo and Jess' has achieved the same distinction in 2012. In 2014, he returned to working behind the camera with his first holiday short film, 'Santa's Third Wheel'. His most widely seen work to date was a labor of love; working as the Associate Producer on 'Trojan War', the popular documentary by Aaron Rahsaan Thomas about the Pete Carroll Era of the USC Trojans football program. In 2017, Malik made his return to acting, playing a Public Access Host on the Netflix series, 'Wet Hot American Summer: 10 Years Later'. Malik's next move is the culmination of years of hard work: he's been chosen as one of the five screenwriters for the 2019 AT&T Hello Lab Mentorship Program. His screenplay, '1 out of 30', is a love story about a young couple on the first day of Ramadan. Also in 2019, Malik walked away with the Best Screenplay Award at the Urbanworld Film Festival for his feature, 'Midnight In Kansas', about a multi generational Black Muslim family dealing with the U.S. justice system.
