Biography
April Maxey is a queer mixed Chicana filmmaker born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, based in Los Angeles. Her short films have played at over 75 festivals across the world, including at Sundance, Tribeca, Palm Springs Shortfest, and Outfest. An alumna of the AFI Directing Workshop for Women and the Berlinale Talents Short Film Station, her work often centers stories and characters which challenge the mainstream, touching on themes like queer intimacy and reclamation of self. April began her journey into filmmaking from a visual arts background, and as a director she has a particular appreciation for the emotional impact of light and color. She holds a BFA in Film from Pratt Insitute. As a writer/director, April is managed by Circle of Confusion for TV & Film and by <Superlative for Commercial & Branded Content.
