Jessica Oreck
Biography
Jessica Oreck makes projects large and that hope to re-inspire a sense of wonder about the world of the everyday. Jessica’s first film, Beetle Queen Conquers Tokyo, was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award in 2010 (Truer Than Fiction Award) and aired on PBS’s Independent Lens _series as well as playing theatrically around the world. In 2011, Her short film _Venus premiered at Sundance Film Festival. Her second feature, Aatsinki: The Story of Arctic Cowboys, premiered in competition at the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival and played in theaters around the US and Europe. Jessica’s third feature-length film, The Vanquishing of the Witch Baba Yaga, premiered theatrically at MoMA in NYC and played in theaters in the US and UK. Her most recent feature is called One Man Dies a Million Times and is Jessica’s first fiction film. It premiered at SXSW and is currently on the festival circuit.
Jessica has made two web series for TED: Mysteries of the Vernacular breathes fresh life into an alphabet of common words; and In a Moment of Vision is about the history of everyday objects. Her kids series, Arthropoda, for a soon-to-launch children’s network, stars some of the world's most fascinating creepy-crawlies.
