Biography
Lobster Eye is a creative studio based in London, New York and Los Angeles, co-founded in 2016 by Ruth Hogben and Andrea Gelardin. Established on the key principals of innovation and excellence, the aim is to offer outstanding creative direction at every stage from conception to completion. Drawing on the formidable combined experience of its co-founders — experience that extends to top flight filmmaking and photography, curation and merchandise design — Lobster Eye has quickly established itself as a creative powerhouse, having already collaborated with a number of leading forces within the fashion and music industries. Working on behalf of client Lady Gaga, the studio rapidly re-established the visual codes associated with one of the world's most popular recording artists, producing a string of incendiary live performances, including Lady Gaga's performance at the 2016 Academy Awards, the 2016 Grammy Awards (for which they collaborated with Intel on a major tribute to David Bowie), the 2017 Super Bowl Halftime Show and the Joanne World Tour 2017/2018 Taking its name from a unique feat of nature that allows for pin-sharp 360 vision, Lobster Eye has been responsible for creating some of the most arresting pop culture imagery of recent times, harnessing a multidisciplinary method to present a unique and original understanding of visual culture in the digital age. Ruth Hogben is widely considered a pioneer of fashion film. She is known globally for image making largely characterised by bold direction and ravishing beauty, with a roster of clients including Kanye West, Gareth Pugh, Wayne McGregor, Louis Vuitton, Francois Nars, MAC Cosmetics, Selfridges and Hugo Boss. Hogben has also worked on numerous editorial campaigns appearing in print for LOVE, Dazed & Confused, and AnOther Magazine amongst others. Andrea Gelardin is known within the fashion and entertainment industries for a highly attuned curatorial eye, having worked extensively with fêted fashion photographer Nick Knight, representing his online platform SHOWstudio. She has managed projects for Louis Vuitton (including a major event at the Moscow Art Fair) and over the past few years has produced content for numerous top flight brands including Gucci, Fiorucci, Swarovski, Topshop, Burberry and Apple.
