Biography
Maya Rose Dittloff (ǔkkayǔ”kwīyinnimǎakii/Many Pipes Woman) is an enrolled member of the Three Affiliated Tribes and is an Amskapi Piikani (Blackfeet) and Chippewa descendent. She was trained at UCLA in the School of Theater, Film and Television where she specialized in Directing and Screenwriting. Today, she works to develop the feature film PERMA RED alongside Vested Interest as well as her feature documentary focused on the loss of her aunt in GOING TO THE SUN.
Maya loves stories with a strong female POV, and loves to upend genre expectations. Drawn again and again to stories about a wistful nostalgia, Maya works in horror, period, and coming of age. Often rooted in traditional Blackfeet storytelling, her stories always provide a grounded twist on familiar stories.
Beyond filmmaking pursuits, she has long been involved with the Native American community while serving as an Ambassador to the American Indian College Fund and as a scholar for the American Indian Business Leaders. In January 2019, she was formally recognized as the Emerging Leader with the Sovereign Bodies Institute, an organization dedicated to MMIW. She has spoken across the country to bring awareness to the state of Native American representation in the entertainment industry.
