Biography
Aoife McArdle is a multi-award-winning writer-director from Northern Ireland known for brave concepts and her unique visual style. She recently continued her work in TV drama, directing and producing episodes of the univerally acclaimed Severance for Apple tv+ starring Patricia Arquette, Adam Scott and John Turturro. In 2021 she directed All Of This Unreal Time, an immersive film installation starring Cillian Murphy performing a monologue written by Max Porter. The piece launched at Manchester International Arts Festival to widespread acclaim. In its review The Guardian wrote, “Intense and all-encompassing, the piece never feels overdramatic or insincere. Its sense of despair is accompanied by a glorious, quiet celebration of the ordinary, the regular, the taken-for-granted”. In 2017 her debut feature, the visually unique, dystopian youth drama, Kissing Candice, screened at both Tiff and Berlinale to critical acclaim. Her lauded music video and commercial work includes films for Jon Hopkins, Bryan Ferry and Anna Calvi and commercials for Honda and Nike. Aoife has been a repeat winner at Cannes Lions, UK MVAs, D&ADs, CLIOS and British Arrows. She is also a Vimeo Staff Pick Alumni having had her work staff picked eight times. She is currently developing her second feature film with BFI.
