Alison Plasto
Biography
A Shooting Director, Alison is passionate about giving rural and regional Australians a voice, especially those who have lost their voice. Her signature documentary Love Hurts screened for White Ribbon Day at Federation Square in Melbourne, moments before Rosie Batty’s speech. Alison’s drama and documentary projects span the social issues of identity, mental health and abuse. She’s also very interested in exploring generational change and the impact technology has on our lives ... with humour! A Director in the Screen Australia/Screen NSW-funded Athena Project run by Screenworks in 2017, Alison was selected for a Directing Intensive with Cate Shortland and Tony Krawitz; and recently completed a Director's attachment on the feature, The Merger, with Mark Grentell. With experience as an ABC Open Producer and a background in both client and agency, Alison is that rare director qualified to share the stories of Australians in a very real way, especially those set outside our big cities. When she’s not making films, you’ll find Alison in the mountains... usually with some skis on. Pride Out West is her fifth broadcast film for the ABC.
