Biography
Chelsea Odufu is a Nigerian Guyanese American film director and visual storyteller whose work focuses on the intersection between spirituality and identity. Often considered an Art Activist Chelsea's work is genre-bending and addresses issues of race, gender, and class through the use of magical realism and alternate realities. A passionate traveler who has visited over 25 countries to date, Chelsea’s creative vision is international and multi-cultural and grounded in authenticity and ethnographic research. Upon graduating from New York University’s esteemed Tisch School of the Arts, Chelsea hit the ground running with the creation of her award-winning film, Ori Inu: In Search of Self. She got hired straight out of university to work for Oscar award-winning filmmaker Spike Lee on a number of his projects including Chi-Raq and his latest Netflix Series She’s Gotta Have it. She has directed and produced content for brands such as General Motors Cadillac, Gillette Venus, and Fiverr. Chelsea is represented by Verve Agency & 3 Arts Entertainment. Chelsea’s work seeks to close the media gap disparity by creating powerful imagery of diverse communities. She will be participating in the Kehinde Wiley Residency program in Senegal in 2021
