Yudho was the recipient of the 2016 Directors Guild of America Best Asian American Student Filmmaker Award and National Board of Review Student Grant. His student film, “Pria,” _is censored in Indonesia for “immoral homosexual indecency” but nevertheless won best Short at the 2017 Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film festival and Hawaii International Film Festival. Additional screenings included BFI Flare, Outfest, Frameline, the L.A Film Festival (RIP), Melbourne International Film Festival, Palm Springs Shortfest, Uppsala and Tokyo's Short Shorts. He’s a member of the Writers Guild of America. His feature length screenplay (co-written with Emma Dudley), "_An Oakland Holiday," is a recipient of the 2022 Black List.
He was born in Jakarta, Indonesia but left when he was 4 for a wayyy smaller Indonesian island south of Singapore when his dad embezzled money from his job. When Yudho was 9, he moved to Rowland Heights, CA after his mom married an American, in the most American way possible: a shotgun wedding in Vegas. Luckily for him, he turned out relatively normal but still weird enough to have an artist’s personality, lol. He went on to get a film studies degree at UC Irvine and then went to Columbia University in NYC for their 5-year MFA program in directing.
Yudho likes rom-coms, deep philosophical conversations and believes that boba is an essential part of any diet (even though he’s lactose intolerant). He’s also totally comfortable writing about himself in third person and doesn’t find this awkward at all!!
