Born in Afghanistan and raised in Germany, Zamarin Wahdat is a cinematographer and writer/director, who attended NYU Tisch School of the Arts Graduate film program as a Dean’s Fellow. Her work as a cinematographer screened at numerous festivals including Sundance, Berlinale, SXSW and Tribeca. In 2020 she received an Academy Award for the short documentary "Learning how to Skate in a Warzone'' (if you’re a girl). This experience led her to write and direct her first short film BAMBIRAK, which received the Sundance Short Film Jury Award for International Fictional in 2021 and was supported by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Zamarin also participated in the Film Independent Project Involve Fellowship program, where she shot LIBERTY (dir. Faren Humes) which received the Grand Jury Prize at Berlinale 2019. She is the recipient of the Nestor Almendros Award for outstanding cinematography and was selected for the American Society of Cinematographer’s Vision Mentorship Program in 2020/21. Zamarin just finished shooting the documentary feature I AM SARAH (dir. Charlie Feldman), about the young Syrian swimmer and activist Sarah Mardini. In 2022 she was selected as a FACE TO FACE ambassador with German Films. Zamarin is a member of the** **IFCF (International Collective of Female Cinematographers)
