Katina began directing films while living in Kenya at 19, doing research on indigenous healers. Her first documentary on the effiicacy of underground Swahili exorcism clans in treating schizophrenia led to a career as a feature producer, working for Plan B and the United Nations. Her first narritive feature using all non-actors in Jamaica, "Wah Do Dem," won the Los Angeles Film Festival.
She forayed into commercial filmmaking after meeting Daniel Mercadante. The two worked on campaigns for Apple, Facebook, Volkswagon and Chevrolet, winning several Grand Clios and being featured at the TED Conference's "Ads Worth Spreading" presentation.
Katina continues to direct short films and commercials with empowering and uplifting messages told subtly through the minutiae within lives of seemingly ordinary people. Her hyper-realistic films result from a hybrid of documentary and narrative techniques, deliverying poignant emotional response from viewers.
