Defending our Crowns
Description :
Defending our Crowns analyzes the issue of discrimination against natural hair textures in Hollywood from the perspectives of 3 black women who work in the media industry. Black actors, models, and TV personalities have a long history of facing discrimination because of their hair texture. Black people in general consistently have to defend their existence. My film specifically advocates for the acceptance of black hair in its natural state. Our hair represents our “crowns”, which are unique to each individual. We should not have to defend our right to wear our crowns the way that they naturally grow out of our scalps.
