Biography
Sandy Ismail is a Lebanese-American filmmaker, storyteller, and any other roles across mediums she believes she can delve into to express and establish a unique voice. She was born and raised in New York City. She graduated with a BFA in Film/Video from the School of Visual Arts. Her body of work ranges from music videos to narrative and experimental films and concentrates on narratives with themes such as identity, faith, culture, injustices, and mental health.
Over time, she’s directed videos for duendita, Anna Wise, and Isa Reyes while assembling her work as a director. Her videos and photography are featured on Pitchfork, PAPER Magazine, Wonderland Magazine, and more. Her short film, Beyond The Veil, was exhibited at the Queens Museum in 2018, then the Arab American National Museum and ICP Museum in 2019. It was a finalist in the World of Women Fair Middle East. It won Best Student Short Film at the Reel East Texas Film Festival.
She is currently working on new film projects and focusing on various approaches to storytelling across different mediums.
