Xiao-Wei Lu is an award-winning Taiwanese director based in London. Her films embody unique storytelling with a focus on identity and social issues and striking visuals drawing inspiration from East Asian and British culture.
Lu has directed high-concept and beautifully choreographed videos, connecting powerful women performances to strong art direction. She’s collaborated with artists such as Mabel, Majestic and RIKA. Her music video for London based Gloria has been featured on Nowness Picks.
Her debut short, Fern won the Best Sound Award at the New York City Independent Film Festival and screened at various film festivals worldwide. More recently, her short documentary The Filial Daughter was a unique portrait about the women who work as professional mourners in Taiwan. It’s an official selection of the LA Asian Pacific Film Festival 2020 and featured on i-D Magazine.
Having directed films for brands such as i-D, Adidas, Nike, Dyson and Audible, Lu’s work has been featured on platforms such as NOWNESS, Hunger TV, The FADER and Wonderland.
